But to avoid the crowds in the village, we recommend this wild loop focused on geology. You&#8217;ll walk through the heart of the Val d&#8217;Enfer, famous for its tortured rock formations that are said to have inspired Dante, before reaching the peaceful valley where the Pavillon de la Reine Jeanne is hidden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The route: <\/strong>The trail takes you down into the valley, past the Pavillon (a Renaissance gem), then back up to the ridges via the old bauxite quarries and bories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\ud83d\udca1Local tip<\/strong>: If this loop is too long, stick to the Chemin des Tr\u00e9ma\u00ef\u00e9 (45-minute loop) located just below the castle cliff to see the Roman steles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Suggested starting point:<\/strong> (located on the D27, just below the Carri\u00e8res de Lumi\u00e8res). You climb gently up to the ruins of Castillon Fortress. Once at the top, you are rewarded with panoramic views of the southern slopes of the Alpilles. The Mill Trail (Fontvieille)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Walking where <strong>Alphonse Daudet <\/strong>found inspiration for his <em>Lettres de mon moulin <\/em>has a certain charm. It&#8217;s a short loop dotted with windmills (including the famous Ribet mill) that children will love. You&#8217;ll also come across the remains of Roman aqueducts. Bring water and good shoes, as it gets serious (but doable!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. The Valdition Loop in Orgon<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re playing at home! Orgon is where we&#8217;re based. This hike is extremely convenient if you&#8217;re staying at the campsite, as it saves you long car journeys. You&#8217;ll cross the superb Valdition vineyard (formerly owned by Fran\u00e7ois I, no less). The scenery? Vineyards, olive trees, almond trees, and limestone cliffs. Provence in all its glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Suggested starting point:<\/strong> Urgonia Museum, Orgon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\ud83d\udccd Technical details: <\/strong>14 km | Elevation gain +250m | \u23f1 4 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. The Baumayrane Ridges<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This hike has two sides to it. One part is very \u201cagricultural,\u201d surrounded by crops, and the other part is much wilder once you reach the ridges. The climb up the Chemin des Lombards can be a bit tough on the calves, but the view of Mont Ventoux in the distance is worth every drop of sweat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visorando.com\/en\/walk-les-cretes-de-baumayrane-le-val-d-enfer-\/\">Suggested starting point:<\/a><\/strong> Departure from a parking lot above the road from Maillane to Les Baux<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\ud83d\udccd Technical details: <\/strong>12 km | Elevation gain +300m | \u23f1 3h30<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc Apr\u00e8s la randonn\u00e9e, pourquoi ne pas tenter d\u2019autres loisirs \u00e0 Orgon et Plan d\u2019Orgon ? Il y en a pour tous les go\u00fbts, <a href=\"https:\/\/la-vallee-heureuse.pausado.com\/en-dehors-du-camping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00e0 proximit\u00e9 du camping de la Vall\u00e9e Heureuse<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7.<strong>Mouri\u00e8s: Les Caisses de Jean-Jean and the Old Railway Line<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Mouri\u00e8s is renowned as the olive oil capital, it also offers an excellent hiking trail. The trail begins at the <strong>Caisses de Jean-Jean parking lot<\/strong> (on the D17, at the exit of Mouri\u00e8s towards Maussane).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The route is unique because it follows part of the old railway line that connected Salon to Arles, offering flat and pleasant sections before taking you up into the limestone hills of the archaeological site (Oppidum). Look up: the Caisses cliffs are a protected nesting site for the impressive eagle owls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Suggested starting point: <\/strong>Caisses de Jean-Jean parking lot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\ud83d\udccd Technical details: <\/strong>19 km (full loop via the ridges) &#8211; Option to do only the Caisses loop (approx. 7 km) for a shorter version.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u23f1 Duration:<\/strong> 5 hours (or 2.5 hours for the short version)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udd34 The athletic challenge (For toned calves)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Want some elevation gain? Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence: Glanum and the Cr\u00eates<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a classic route, but it&#8217;s worth the effort. Start from the Plateau des Antiques (the Roman mausoleum). You&#8217;ll climb up to the ridges, pass by the Rocher des Deux Trous (immortalized by Van Gogh) and overlook the archaeological site of Glanum. The Calans Trail in Eygali\u00e8res<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This trail is a must for those who love the landscapes of \u201cWestern Provence.\u201d Don&#8217;t be fooled by its modest elevation gain on paper: the trail is like a roller coaster! You&#8217;ll walk alongside the magnificent Gros Calan (an impressive rock formation) with breathtaking views of the village of Eygali\u00e8res and Mont Ventoux. It&#8217;s a wild route, where limestone rock is omnipresent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visorando.com\/en\/walk-autour-des-calans-au-depart-d-eygalieres\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Suggested starting point:<\/strong> <\/a>Park in the Eygali\u00e8res school parking lot along Avenue L\u00e9on Blum.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\ud83d\udccdTechnical details: <\/strong>10 to 12 km (depending on route) | Elevation gain +350m | \u23f1 3.5 to 4 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10. The Opies Tower: The roof of the Alpilles<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It would be impossible to compile this list without mentioning the highest point of the massif (498 meters).
